Lawrence M. Schoen is probably best known as that "Klingon Guy" as a result creating the Klingon Language Institute back in 1991. In addition to being one of the world's foremost authorities on the Klingon language, he's responsible for spreading the language to fifty countries, and publishing works of Shakespeare in this alien tongue. Lawrence holds a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology with special focus in the research areas of language and memory. He spent ten years as a college professor, and currently works as the research director and compliance officer for a series of mental health and addiction treatment facilities. Given his background, it's not at all surprising that his fiction frequently includes themes of alien perceptions and perspectives, memory and the mind. Particular speaking topics include creating alien languages, psychological considerations in science fiction, and of course, Klingon.
