I worked for Barnes and Noble for ten years and was their national science fiction, fantasy, and role playing buyer for the last three of those years. When I left B&N in 1995 for the Director of Sales position at White Wolf Publishing, Inc., Locus, the newspaper of the science fiction field, called him "the most powerful person in science fiction." I was the Director of Sales for White Wolf for three years. In 1996 Kevin Murphy and I launched Meisha Merlin Publishing, Inc. In 1997 Nicola Griffith and I started co-editing the three volume anthology series Bending the Landscape. All together our three volume series was nominated for eight national awards and won four of them including the World Fantasy Award for Best Fantasy Anthology in 1998. In June of 1998 I left White Wolf to devote all my efforts to running Meisha Merlin Publishing, Inc., an independent publishing house of science fiction, fantasy, and horror titles. I have given talks and presentations on: Where is Publishing Going?, So Many Choices in Publishing, What's a Writer To Do?, The Business Aspects of Publishing and Writing. I have spoken to writers groups and libraries and also held question and answer sessions on writing and/or publishing. Since quite a lot of people are shy about asking questions in public, most of the Q&A sessions allowed people to anonymously submit questions ahead of time.
