Dr. Marleen S. Barr, who teaches in the Communication and Media Department at Fordham University, is a winner of the Science Fiction Research Association Pilgrim Award for lifetime achievement in science fiction criticism. Barr, a specialist in science fiction written by women, has published widely and lectured throughout the world. She recently co-edited the special topic science fiction issue of PMLA, the most renowned literary studies journal in the United States. In addition to her expertise on academic aspects of science fiction, Barr has herself written a science fiction novel: OY PIONEER!, which recounts the hilarious adventures of a husband hunting feminist science fiction theorist. Barr is available for press inquiries and topics about education, film and television, genre history, and creative writing. She sometimes describes what it is like to be a pioneering feminist science fiction theorist who is married to an alien.
